Merchants of death

Last summer, we had a death in the family. A neighbor who is roman catholic kindly had some prayers said for the the deceased; even as nonbelievers we appreciated the thought, and the card that conveyed it. Today a catalog for roman catholic paraphernalia arrived in our mailbox; we have never received any such catalogs before.

I know this is uncharitable of me, but I think that a supposedly religious order that makes money by selling people’s private notifications of tragedy deserves nothing but matching misery in this world and any other. So here’s a question: which is more apposite, the verse about whited sepuchres or the one about making the temple into a den of thieves?
